Mr. Franklin,

Your statement on Sunday Best episode played on March 1st on BET sickens me. Your statement to Mr. Parra of "come over here light skin" goes against everything I teach my kids. You see, I have children and their skin tone varies however, I raised them to not look at each other skin tones and that they're all loved the same way. Your statement goes against everything I teach them and want them to be exposed too!

I loved you as an artist and admire your struggle. My kids love your music however you're not the role model I want my kids to listen too anymore. Your statement is destructive and does not help bridge the skin tone gap in our community. YOU SEE, WHEN YOU MAKE THOSE DEROGERTORY statements LIKE THAT, YOUNGER KIDS LISTEN AND THEY THINK ITS OK, THEN THEY TOO START TO USE IT AGAINST EACH OTHER AND THAT'S WHAT BREAKS KIDS DOWN AND GIVE THEM LOW SELF-ESTEM…You must set a better example! You have the power of the media and I would have hoped you of all people could put it to better use. Your comment may seem innocent to you however, it goes a long way to cause destruction within the community and the rest of the world hears this and then think its ok to use at us.

This may be to the extreme, but I am not going to expose my kids to you and your mix message. I sensor black movies, music and shows that they are exposed to, little did I know that I would have to do the same with gospel artist and shows.

First of all I'd like to say that I'm a big fan of your work in your ministry and in your music. You are truly a work from the Lord. I dont know how weird you might look at this but I'm just an ordinary man with gifts from the Lord, and every now and then I write gospel music in my spare time but when I'm writing I hear people that God have already blessed in the music industry singing these songs. So if you dont mind I would truly appreciate if you check out this one that I wrote for you and your crew but I also heard it featuring Ginuwine but Kirk I know you're gifted and I know that you know all about how to lace a song so this is just what I heard in my head but if you change it then God bless it anyways! Wow im nervous I cant believe I'm taking a chance like this. Okay here it goes....

Grace and Peace be unto you from our Lord Jesus Christ. My name is Antoine Robinson and I live in Northern Virginia and I just wanted to share something with you. Now you are probably wondering what I could possibly want to share with you. I pray that I will be able to articulate my heart and Gods vision to you. I know I don’t know you personally but I know that it is in the plan and will of God for the two of our paths to cross. I know this might sound a little strange or crazy but, I know that there is something that I need to complete the ministry God has placed inside of me, and I know that you have what I need! Now Kirk, I’m not talking about a hook up or an opportunity! I’m talking about Devine Connection. There is something that God has placed in your mouth that is going to take my ministry to the next level, words of wisdom and instruction. One day about 5 years ago God showed me something that blew my mind! He showed me the great pioneers of gospel music. First he showed me Mahalia Jackson and how He used her to bring gospel music from the old country church and cotton fields to a more main stream and global ministry. Then He showed me James Cleveland and how He used James to begin over all structure and musicianship and more advance voice parts. James took gospel music to a whole nother level! Now in the midst of those two icons there were many others that God was using, but they were the ones God chose to spearhead the movement (many have been called but few are chose). Now, in this new era of gospel music we have many different artist and ministering gifts, but that mantel and torch was passed to you! You have been the voice for this hour. God has used you to reach the masses! The people that no one wants, the outcast, the broken hearted. You have thought us how to dance on our troubles and how to free ourselves from the very clutches of the enemy! If it had not been for you there would not be an “Israel & New Bread”, or “Tye Tribbitt & GA”ect. You paved the way for all of those people. God showed me how now he has placed that same mantel on me, and I am so humbled, appreciative, but afraid of messing up! I just want God to be pleased with me and my service unto Him! Like I said I’m not looking for a hook up because I know what my destine holds, and even if you tried to hook me up it will only go as far as God will allow it to go. So I would love to talk to you and glean from you, but if I never talk to you always know that my prayers are with you and your family. Hi Mr.Franklin I was a contestant for Sundays Best and it was awesome, I was able to make it both rounds and was told that were told we made it to the 3rd round for Sunday which meant we would be in front of the judges however once we arrived we found that we were misinformed and we had to audition all over again. That was fine but what I would like to get a clear understanding on the judges that we were judged by, it was so much confusion going on and very unorganized that morning, they had judges that were not singers or song writers which we had already been judged by the best in the industry such as Steven heard, Marett June Brown and others in the Gospel industry was it fair to have a 3rd round of auditions and to be judged by people who were not the above? I just want clarity, I flew from Las Vegas to Chicago for the first audition which I had got my ticket at the end of December before Sundays Best changed the date to the 24th, It could not be refunded, thank God I am from Detroit so I was able to go home but then I had to raise money to get to Washington which I did, just to be turned away after I made it every round. This was very disappointing seeing what I had went through. I really just wanted to know if next time will it be more organized and will they tell the truth and allow the ones that made it to the third round be able to audition in front of the judges on the third round. It was a great experience for me, I just wanted to be able to at least go before the judges seeing that this trip cost me well over $1,000. The one thing I would like to see with Sundays best is that the truth be the truth and they allow singers to be heard or even here our story. I really went through alot to get their in this hard economic time, Im sure we will cross roads again. Thank you for the opportunity and hope to get a response from you.
