Today while listening to Pandora an album by the Rance Allen group featuring Kirk Franklin came up and a song began to play called Something About the Name Jesus. There was an introduction to the song and I don't know who was making it. But the remarks in that introduction concerning Muslims and Jews was offensive to me. I am a Christian but I don't believe that Muslims and Jews and Hindus etc. are going to have to bow down to Jesus to find heaven. I think God likes them just as they are.

I am writing because I am an aspired songwriter. I have written a few songs and I believe the songs that I am writing (with the Help of God) are a sound that is catching. I tapped into this gift when I was 16 and I put it on the back burner, as I wanted to focus on school and gaining enough education to sustain a career. However, I have just recently graduated from college with my master’s degree and I am ready to write again. Currently, I am writing to beats I hear on YouTube and some instrumentals, but I don’t know how productive I am in doing that. I have tried to reach out to a couple of local producers I know and they are uninterested in working with me. The responses I received are “I need to make it first” or “I can’t trust going into business with you, I want to go into it on my own”. One of my friends said he would help me and then used me to write a play for him and never came through on his end of the bargain.
Truthfully, it’s a bit discouraging when I hear responses like the ones I’ve been getting. However, I am a strong believer that nothing good in life comes easy. I am not looking for a handout just some honest advice, some guidance from a more experienced individual. I started creating a logo for myself and I am currently saving money to establish a name for my self, copyright my material and begin to post on websites where singers can hear my material and ultimately buy (I don’t know how it works). My name is Amanda. I know that you most likely don't read these yourself, but regardless I felt that I had to take the chance that you would hear me.

First let me say, I ask you for nothing... I just wanted to offer you a bit of testimony if you're interested. Although my story is long, I assure you it's worth the read.

My husband and I have 3 children. All by the grace of God are healthy and happy. My husband works from dawn until dusk 7 days a week. I recently became unemployed. Same story different username huh... well keep reading...
I have been raised christian, baptized when I was 12. Since I have made my fair share of major mistakes and allowed myself to be part of others mistakes. sometimes by choice, sometimes not. but here I am. Now I'm 30 years old. Have been a victim of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse more than anyone should have ever had to go through. My ex husband would beat me, rape me, and many other things that I don't believe need to really be mentioned but I assure you I'm lucky to be alive. I know I am not the only one so please no pity, I just need you to understand the background before the rest of this testimony will make much sense.

I found the strength to divorce him by the hand of God and no other. Actually, God delivered me from him. It just so happened that one night while on a drunken binge, he grabbed a rather large hunting knife... He attempted to stab me. Thankfully a friend of his has been there with us because he grabbed my two children at the time who were only 2 and a few months old. The friend managed to get the knife away but in the process his hand was sliced severely where he had to grab the blade in order to stop it from plunging into my back. Once the children were safe, I gave up.... literally... All the years of fighting and just trying to survive were to much. So, when he threw me on the bed and began to choke me, I just prayed. Not for him to stop, not for it to end, not to live, not for the safety of my children... I asked for nothing. I simply said to him "if it is your will... .let it be done". It wasn't long before he started to calm down. I know it was God, but some say he was starting to sober up, or was running out of the strength to continue after the 6 hours of continuous abuse I had endured that day. But I know the truth.

I talked him into letting me leave to go get the children to bring them home. But that's not what I did. I went and got them and drove... Just drove. I didn't know where I was going and I didn't care. I was just going to drive. I ended up running out of gas near my grandparents home. They of course came and got us. when she saw the bruises, the cuts, and the hand prints around my throat I knew there was no way to talk my way out. So I just cried. I said nothing... I just cried. I'll never forget my grandfather coming in. He took one look at me and said nothing just came over, laid his hands on my head and prayed. Not out loud, I have no idea what he asked for or said to God that day... But I felt an instant relief. Even though brief. My grandmother sat up all night with the .45 loaded revolver just waiting for him to try and come get me as he had always done before... But he didn't. He never showed. Shortly after I moved in with my mother. It took me a while but by the grace of God I made it through. A couple years later I married my husband now and was blessed with another child. He is an amazing man. Someone that God has truly brought in my life for a reason I know.

Recently I have realized that as the goodness of my life came in, my faith and dependency on the Lord slowly crept away. I began to realize it a few months ago. Certain movies, shows or songs would come on and I would just feel it... like it was meant for me... because it was. But foolishly I ignored it. I kept getting signs to go back to church which I haven't done since I was 17. I always had an excuse.. not having the time, or the right clothes to wear, or embarrassed, or telling myself that physically going to the church isn't any different than studying the bible and worshiping in my own way.

Well today I got the message of a lifetime. As I sat here, unable to stop crying because my children are hungry and even though we work so hard there is no money coming in. My house payment is not made, my internet although the least important will be the first to go, then the phone, then gas, then electric, then water. That is if we aren't evicted first. I have not felt this low in 6 years... since I felt the Lord take it from me that one day at my grandparents home. Then I remembered your song that I've heard so many times before. I can never make it through it without feeling him literally whispering in my ear that it's all gone. I have been sitting here all day thinking of giving in, but not in the right way, I wanted it to just all end. I've been sending my children to friends and family houses just to know they're fed. My pride has gotten in the way of me asking for help yet again... But, I found your song online. I think I've literally played it about 100 times over and over. And it never fails... when I hear you say the words... "Imagine God whispering in your ear that its gone" I cry even harder... but no longer because I'm afraid... but because you have reminded me that God will take everything from me if I just ask him to. So I have.

I can literally feel the Lord saying to me, I've been here all along, you are the mother, the wife, and the woman you are because of the things you have been through. Although they were not easy, the things gained outweigh the pain and heartache. So thank you... for reminding me that God will take it all away... you only have to let him.

I am positive I will never get a response from you, and that's fine. I just wanted you to know, that no matter what criticism you may go through in life, your songs have saved many people from themselves. And you relate it to modern day issues which to me is a live saver... literally... I know that today... you have literally saved mine... from myself.

So thank you Mr. Franklin, for writing, performing, and publishing that song (and all your others) because without that reminder, I may not have made it through the day.

Mr. Franklin. Several weeks my daughter finished basic training at Lacklanf AFB , Texas. Which was grand. But to top the weekend off was church service. Where I saw 300 young Airmen (men and women) rock out your song (SMILE) O.M.G. they had hand movements and steps.My daughter finishes school there in 5 weeks its my hope and prayer you can get there to see it.
